Nonetheless, here's some of the tax changes included in the bill. I personally am in favor of number three on the list: "A requirement that businesses include the value of the health care benefits they provide to employees on W-2s, beginning with W-2s for 2011." Not that I want larger taxable income, but I am in favor of equal tax treatment of wage income and fringe benefits. This is a policy that on its own would have encouraged more individually based (rather than employer provided) health insurance. This would have helped reel in health care costs by attaching more accountability for over-use of coverage. Unfortunately, this change comes with a requirement of employers to offer health insurance, effectively voiding the benefits of equal tax treatment.
