Mayor Daley's newest attack on guns

,
Chicago mayor, Richard Daley, has yet to give up on his fight against guns. With Chicago's gun ban (already in effect for 28 years) was ruled unconstitutional, Daley is attempting new legislation that allows guns to be owned in the city but not taken outside the owner's home--not even on the porch. But he doesn't stop there. To own a gun legally under this proposed law, a person would be required to take a four-hour class and one-hour training at a gun range. But, they would have to leave the city for training because Chicago prohibits new gun ranges and limits the use of existing ranges to police officers. I'd be interested to know how far the average Chicago resident would have to travel to get to an approved training facility. There are several other requirements included in the law that further make it difficult to own a law.

Mayor Daley might think that this will have an impact on gun ownership and use by existing criminals. But, these people already have little respect for the existing laws; what is it about this law that makes Daley think they will start obeying his new proposal?

By making it so difficult to own a gun legally, Daley's proposal will ultimately create more criminals as there will surely be many peaceful gun owners who will choose to not go through the daunting steps to legally own a gun in Chicago--and bravo to those individuals. But, maybe that is Daley's goal--and the goal of many in government--to create criminals out of most citizens such that we can more easily be put under their thumb. If we all are ultimately law-breakers, then they have an excuse to arrest us if/when we resist any further expansions of government power and further intrusions into our lives.
