An article Daniel Kruger in Evolutionary Psychology finds that women marry earlier in areas with fewer single women relative to single men. The author attributes this to 1) the ability of women to find a suitable mate given the increased relative supply of single men and 2) the greater willingness of men to more quickly settle down once a good woman is found. If the later is true, I would suspect that divorce rates are also higher in the same areas, given that men are less selective in choosing their mates.
