Chicago representatives boast that the city has the most integrated system of cameras, both private and public, in the world. Read more here. The description is reminiscent of Will Smith's 1998 movie Enemy of the State in which power-hungry NSA agents uses the network of cameras to track Dean's (Smith character) every movement and to blackmail him through threat of still shots sent to his wife. The threats noted in this movie are very real in Chicago right now and likely soon in many other cities. Yet, "most Chicago residents accept [the cameras] as a fact of life in a city that has always had a powerful local government and police force." It is this unwillingness of citizens to stand up for their own liberties that will be our undoing. Unbridled power will surely lead to a deterioration of our freedoms.
